How
We Design Homes That Grow in Place.
Site-responsive, climate-informed architecture by a Canberra Architect. Typology Architecture translates climate, site, and budget realities into design that feels right in place. As a residential architect in Canberra, we help homeowners shape early ideas into grounded, climate‑responsive concepts that suit local conditions.
Working with a Canberra Architect connects your project to real local expertise. We consider climate, planning requirements, and your site’s specific opportunities. The result is a smoother, more informed transition from feasibility to design development.
All residential projects commence with a Concept Package and Project Feasibility service. This standalone package is designed to:
- Assess the project brief against the site and existing conditions.
- Develop a project narrative which summarises an architectural direction responding to the character of the place.
- Develop a highly considered schematic concept plan with 3D imagery and concept scope of work.
- Be used to identify a potential builder and obtain an initial opinion of probable cost to confirm the project feasibility before detailed design is undertaken.
The 5-Step Concept Package and Project Feasibility.
Step 1: Discovery Call with your Canberra Architect
- Purpose: to discuss your project, goals, and initial ideas.
- Output: we clarify if we are a fit and agree a path forward.
Step 2: On-site Walkthrough
- Purpose: to meet on site to understand house character, residential needs and site constraints as your residential architect in Canberra.
- Output: we discuss the on-site findings help the development of a refined brief.
Step 3: Development of the Concept Package
- Purpose: to conduct a detailed site measure, prepare existing drawings, and develop a conceptual direction.
- Output: we develop an initial concept direction, conduct feedback sessions, and further refine the project direction if needed.
Step 4: Engage Builders for Opinion of Probable Cost
- Purpose: to workshop suitable builders and identify constructability preferences.
- Output: we brief suitable builders and obtain an opinion of probable cost to confirm the overall project feasibility. This ensures that the idea aligns with the budget, giving you confidence to proceed.
Step 5: Feasibility Confirmation and Next Steps
- Purpose: to confirm feasibility and readiness to proceed to Design Development and approvals.
- Output: we develop a detailed project and fee proposal for next steps, refer to Services for more detail on project stages.
The Concept Package and accompanying opinion of probable cost help confirm feasibility at an early stage, giving clients confidence to progress to Design Development and approvals.

FAQs.
Q1: How long does the Concept Package take?
The Concept Package takes 5 – 6 weeks, depending on site complexity and builder availability for cost input.
Q2: What is included in the Concept Package?
Site overlays and planning context, existing house plans and a detailed base survey, a refined, detailed schematic design, 3D models, a concept narrative, a concept scope of work, and an opinion of probable cost from a builder.
Q3: What information is required to commence a concept package?
A project brief (the problem, goals, likes/dislikes, constraints) and existing floor plans. Typology Architecture can help refine the brief. A detailed site survey is also recommended.
Q4: After the concept package is complete, what’s next?
To learn about the next stages of the design, our Services page details the next steps.
